Philip II is quite possibly one of the most complex and contradictory characters in History. Throughout centuries his image was tainted by the Black Legend which portrayed him as a murdered, fanatic, cruel King. He is still seen like that by some people especially in English speaking countries, however due to the work of amazing historians, there has been an attempt to portray him as a very very complex man with a lot of flaws but another great lot of virtues. 

And he is my historical crush because of that precisely: he is immensely complex. And because he has bedroom blue eyes and a trimmed blonde beard, an imposing nose…and his lips. His perfect lips of a “man who has kissed a lot” (As a Portuguese writer put it).
