Infante Juan Carlos de Borbón (Juan Carlos Teresa Silvestre Alfonso de Borbón y Battenberg) (20 June 1913 – 1 April 1993), Count of Barcelona. Third son of King Alfonso XIII of Spain and Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg and heir to the Spanish throne. The dictator Franco replaced Juan as heir, due his liberal stance, with Juan Carlos. But when he reached the throne, Juan Carlos supported democracy and not Francos heritage. Certainly Juans influence was a factor.
He married Princess María Mercedes of Bourbon-Two Sicilies in 1935 in Rome. He was the father of King Juan Carlos I, Infanta Pilar, Duchess of Badajoz, Infanta Margarita, Duchess of Soria, 2nd Duchess of Hernani and the late Infante Alfonso of Spain.
